Experienced, compassionate support

🛡️ ACCPH Senior Member 🎓 Psychotherapeutic Counsellor 📞 Crisis Call-Out Trained 🤝 Trauma Specialist
Damon Beard - Counsellor ACCPH Senior Member

Before having my own practice, I worked in a trauma centre as a face-to-face and telephone counsellor, and I was part of a small specialised 24-hour crisis call-out team, providing immediate, compassionate support during emergency situations.

I also had the privilege of working at a community clinic offering HIV testing alongside free mental health care, supporting individuals who might not otherwise have access to counselling.

I have facilitated and mediated Personal Growth and Counselling Skills training courses at a service organisation that responds to emotional trauma and individual crisis, helping others develop insight, emotional awareness, and effective communication skills.

Whatever you're going through — whether it's trauma related, a relationship or family challenge, anxiety, sadness, bereavement, or a personal struggle — I offer a safe, confidential space where you can be heard without judgement.

I'm trained to listen carefully to both your words and your feelings, helping you to process difficult and often overwhelming experiences. From there, we'll work together to develop practical ways to cope with the emotions that follow … and to move forward at your own pace.

I am a registered Senior Member of ACCPH (UK) and I work in accordance with their professional and ethical standards.

Signs it might be time to talk

Life throws challenges at us. Sometimes we cope, and sometimes we feel overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure of where to turn. Here's what to look for:

Your emotions are intense and you have trouble managing them

You've noticed changes in your sleep or appetite, or both

You're distracted at work or struggling to concentrate

Your relationships are strained, or you're withdrawing from them

You don't feel pleasure from activities you usually enjoy

You turn to substances or risky behaviours to cope with emotional pain

You've been through difficult experiences like trauma or grief

You feel like there's no one to talk to or no one who will understand

Reaching out for help is one of the strongest, most empowering decisions you can make for yourself.

Common questions

In your first session, I'll gain an initial understanding of your needs. From there, we can discuss your journey and how many sessions you'll need. I offer short term (4–6 sessions), medium, and long-term open-ended counselling to adults and young people over 18. Perhaps you just want a one-off session — and that's absolutely fine too.

Yes. I keep a limited number of appointments available on a weekly basis to accommodate people needing urgent assistance. Weekend emergency appointments are also available.
All of my appointments are spaced out which gives you ample time to arrive and leave, so the chance of you bumping into someone else is highly unlikely. I work from home, so there's no reception or waiting room — just a private, comfortable space for you.
If we do meet in public, I won't initiate contact. If our eyes meet, I might offer a smile or a small nod, but I won't approach you or start a conversation. This protects your confidentiality and ensures you remain in full control. We can discuss your preferences during our sessions so that I can adapt my approach in a way that supports you.
Absolutely. Anything we discuss is strictly confidential. When you come to see me, you'll be welcomed into a safe space where you can talk freely about anything, without any judgement whatsoever.
